Protected: Mental Health Bill (Lords): 14th October Commons Debate Highlights – Members’ Exclusive

On 14 October, Members of the Commons examined the Lords-amended Mental Health Bill, with particular focus on its provisions for people with autism and learning disabilities, and the operation of community treatment orders (CTOs). One of the Bill’s defining reforms is the removal of autism and learning disabilities from the umbrella term ‘mental disorder’ under section 3. This will mean that individuals with autism or a learning disability cannot be detained for treatment under the Act unless they present a co-occurring mental health condition requiring in-patient care.
