In the latest roll back of Covid restrictions Health Secretary Sajid Javid has today announced the end to limits on the number of visitors allowed at care homes from next Monday.
He has also cut the number of days care homes will have to follow outbreak management rules from 28 to 14. Isolation periods following emergency hospital periods or a positive Covid test will be cut from 14 to a maximum of 10 days and all requirements for testing or self-isolation following visits will also be removed.
I know how vital companionship is to those living in care homes and the positive difference visits make
Health Secretary Sajid Javid
These rule changes effect over a million people in an adult social care setting and will be a relief for many who have spent nearly two years under harsh Covid restrictions.
The Government may have changed what care homes can do but it is the care homes themselves who will decide when and how to implement these changes so there are still likely to be some delays to changes after Monday.
